They operated independently in the United States until in 1975, Aldrich and Sigma realized that their products were complementary. Because of this, the two companies merged to form Sigma Aldrich.
Merger of Sigma Aldrich and Millipore
Shortly afterwards, in November 2015, the German Merck Company acquired the Sigma Aldrich brand, and Sigma Aldrich became a subsidiary of the German Merck. The company is now part of Merck’s scientific, biological and business, and then Sigma Aldrich merged with Millipore, a company previously acquired by Merck, and now operates as Millipore Sigma.
